INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS

FOR

86'-92' RX7 Fuel Injection Supercharger Kit

The Camden Supercharger system utilizes a roots type supercharger developed specifically for automotive applications. The present supercharger design has evolved from the first Camden Supercharger built in 1956. The experience gained from hundreds of installations in circle track race cars, sports cars, passenger cars, trucks, marine and stationary engines has been applied to periodically upgrade the design for increased reliability and improved performance. Design features of the Camden Supercharger include extruded aluminum rotors with Teflon tip seals, pressure lubrication of rotor shaft bearing, serpentine pulleys, one piece front extensions, and multi-ribbed rotor housing.

Remove the Dynamic Chamber:

A. Disconnect any additional hoses (water, vacuum, and fuel) connected to dynamic chamber.

B. Disconnect electrical connections (Intake air temp sensor, bypass air control connector).

C. Remove nuts and bolts.

D. Remove dynamic chamber.

Note: You may need to remove secondary fuel rail. Be sure to save injectors.

Remove Air Pump:

A. Disconnect air hoses from air pump.

B. Remove air pump strap bolt.

Remove EGR Valve (If equipped 86'- 88'n/t).

Camden Supercharger: 86-91 RX-7 EFI Installation

Note: Supercharger rotors have very close operating tolerances between themselves and the rotor housing. Any foreign object introduced through the carburetor flange opening can cause serious damage to the internal components. Keep the protective tape on both the inlet and discharge ports until the last possible moment.

Block off unused ports:

A. Block off EGR valve port with new gasket and plate provided in kit.

B. Block off unused oil metering lines with new crush washers and M6x1mm bolts provided.

C. Block off unused coolant line in rear of water pump housing and in rear cast iron using rubber plugs and hose clamps.

D. Plug vacuum line of oil metering inlet with quarter inch rubber plugs. [See Figure 1]

Drill and tap front cover:

A. Raise car and remove undercover.

B. Remove motor mounts attached to oil pan.

C. Remove oil pan and clean gasket surface.

D. Drill (7/16in) and tap (1/4in NPT) front cover where shown [See Figure 2 & 3]

E. Install 1/4in NPTx1/2in push lock hose fitting into tapped hole.

F. Reinstall oil pan, motor mounts, and undercover.

Install pulleys:

A. Install water pump pulley and alternator pulley.

B. Transfer timing marks from stock crank pulley to the new crank pulley and install.

C. Install Idler pulley bracket to front side of water pump housing using bolts provided.

D. Install Idler pulley.

Install clutch fan.

Install lower intake manifold:

A. Install secondary injectors into lower intake manifold using new rubber seats and O-rings.

B. Install new secondary fuel rail to the backside of the lower intake manifold - lubricating injector O-ring. Fasten with 1/4in-20 socket head cap screws provided.

C. Install lower intake manifold to your 13B block using new intake gasket.

Note: The manifold to fender clearance is fairly tight. You may need to undo the mounts for your heater lines and air conditioning lines that are located on the lower passenger fender. This will help make room for the manifold to clear the mounting studs during installation.

D. Re-use stock nuts and bolts to fasten lower intake to block (torque to 18 lb-ft).

E. If a boost gauge is not used, than you should plug the tapered hole on the rear of the manifold with a 1/8in NPT plug.

F. Extend secondary injector wiring by cutting back the wire harness cover or splice in a section of wire that will allow you to reach new injector locations.

Run fuel lines:

A. Run fuel lines: From fuel filter to pulsation dampener in primary fuel rail, from firewall side of primary fuel rail to firewall side of secondary fuel rail, from radiator side of secondary fuel rail to pressure regulator inlet, from pressure regulator return outlet to fuel tank return.

Note: Use high pressure hose clamps at all connections.

B. Mount pressure regulator to passenger fender.

C. Connect battery and pressure check secondary fuel rail for leeks. Disconnect battery. [See Figure 4]

Install O-ring in groove around the intake port.

Note: Use a light coating of RTV silicon gasket, this will insure that the O-ring stays in place during assembly.

Install supercharger:

A. Remove protective tape from bottom port of supercharger.

B. Install four (4) 3/8in-16 x 5 1/2in bolts and flat washers into counter-bored holes on the supercharger.

C. Gradually tighten to 18 ft/lb. [See Figure 5]

Note: Check for smooth turning of the supercharger pulley.

Run oil lines:

A. Install oil filter mount using new O-ring gaskets provided.

B. Install oil inlet line to rear of oil filter mount and rear of supercharger.

C. Install oil drain line from 1/2in push lock hose fitting (located at front lower passenger side of supercharger); to fitting installed on front cover of engine block.

D. Install new oil filter.

Ground wire harness:

You should have two free grounds on top of the engine block. One is tied into the air temperature sensor which will be used later to ground the upper intake manifold. The other needs to be grounded directly to the engine block at this time. [See Figure 6]

Install Upper Intake manifold:

A. Remove protective tape from top port of supercharger.

B. Use 5/16in-18 studs, lock washers, nuts, and light coating of silicone to attach upper intake to supercharger. [See Figure 7]

C. Use 3/8in hose and hose clamps provided in kit to connect brake booster to rear fitting on the upper manifold.

D. Connect air temperature sensor to wire harness and fasten ground to throttle cable bracket.

Install throttle body:

A. Bolt on throttle body using stock plastic spacer and stock mounting bolts.

Note: On 89' and up there is a need for a spacer in the top right hand stud.

B. Connect TPS to wire harness.

C. Connect throttle cable.

D. Run a vacuum line from the front fitting of the manifold and T to throttle diaphragm and pressure sensor.

Note: If you have a manual oil metering pump, wire open pump to nine-o-clock position.

Install AFM:

A. Install down pipe using 3.5in hose fitting and large hose clamps.

B. Connect AFM to down pipe using 3in hose fitting and large hose clamps.

C. Connect AFM to wire harness.

86'-88' D. Bolt on air filter bracket and install air filter. [See Figure 8]

89'-91’ D. Remove mounting bracket from stock air box and bolt on hold down strap.

E. Transfer bracket from stock air box to AFM.

F. Bolt hold down strap to passenger fender at air conditioning mount location.

G. Place rubber ring inside rubber air filter mount to act as a reducer. Install air filter. Discard mounting bracket used in 86'-88'. [See Figure 9]

Install belts and add fluids.

Connect battery and start engine.

Bring Idle between 1500 - 1800rpm.
